Global Markets:
Asian markets exhibited a mixed performance on Monday as investors commenced the final trading week of the year.
Spot silver prices surged to a new record high, exceeding $80 per ounce, before experiencing a significant pullback to $77. Experts noted that the recent surge in silver was fueled by speculative buying and ongoing supply tightness. According to media reports, silver’s rally this year indicates a depletion of freely traded inventory, which is amplifying price movements as demand rises.
On Friday in the U.S., the S&P 500 achieved a new peak and recorded weekly gains as traders returned from the Christmas holiday. The broad market index finished the day down 0.03%, concluding at 6,929.94. At its peak, the S&P 500 increased by 0.2%, hitting 6,945.77. The Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a decline of 20.19 points, translating to a decrease of 0.04%, closing at 48,710.97.
Domestic Market:
Domestic equity benchmarks fell into negative territory on Tuesday, as profit booking in a holiday-shortened week and ongoing foreign institutional investor selling undermined investor confidence. The Nifty ended the day beneath the 26,050 threshold, weighed down by declines in the IT and auto sectors.
The S&P BSE Sensex fell by 367.25 points, representing a decrease of 0.43%, closing at 85,041.45. The Nifty 50 index experienced a decline of 99.80 points, representing a decrease of 0.38%, closing at 26,042.30.
