SGX Nifty January 2026 futures increased by 54.50 points, suggesting a favorable start for the Nifty 50 today.

Institutional Flows:

On 01 January 2026, provisional data indicated that foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) divested shares amounting to Rs 3,268.60 crore, whereas domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net purchasers, acquiring shares worth Rs 1,525.89 crore in the Indian equity market.

The foreign institutional investors sold shares totaling Rs 34,349.62 crore in December. This comes after their cash sales of Rs 17,500.31 crore in November and Rs 2,346.89 crore in October.

Global Markets:

South Korea’s Kospi reached a new high on Friday as the Asian markets began the new year with varied trading results. Several Asian markets remained closed for the holidays, such as Japan and mainland China.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s economy expanded 5.7% year-on-year for the fourth quarter, driven mainly by robust manufacturing growth in the three months through December. The most recent figure exceeds the adjusted 4.3% growth from the prior quarter. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong revealed in his New Year message that the nation achieved a robust 4.8% growth for the entire year of 2025, surpassing expectations.

U.S. stock futures showed positive movement in early Asian trading, with S&P futures increasing by 0.15% and Nasdaq-100 futures rising by 0.12%. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.16%. On Wednesday in the U.S., the S&P 500 decreased by 0.74%, the Nasdaq Composite declined by 0.76%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 0.63%.

Domestic Market:

Benchmark equity indices closed almost unchanged on Thursday as the expiration of weekly Sensex derivatives contracts limited gains due to a lack of significant economic indicators. The Nifty ended the day beneath the 25,150 threshold after relinquishing early gains, with increases in auto and metal stocks, while pharma and healthcare shares saw a downturn, as investors redirected their attention to the forthcoming earnings season.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell by 32 points, representing a decrease of 0.04%, closing at 85,188.60. The Nifty 50 index increased by 16.95 points, reflecting a rise of 0.06%, reaching a total of 26,146.55.
