SGX Nifty January 2026 futures declined by 48.50 points, suggesting a bearish start for the Nifty 50 today.

Institutional Flows:

On 07 January 2026, provisional data indicated that foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) divested shares amounting to Rs 1,527.71 crore, whereas domestic institutional investors (DIIs) made net purchases totaling Rs 2,889.32 crore in the Indian equity market.

The foreign institutional investors have divested shares amounting to Rs 4,650.39 up to this point in January. This reflects their cash sales of Rs 34,349.62 crore in December and Rs 17,500.31 crore in November.

Institutional Flows:

Asia-Pacific markets exhibited a mixed performance on Thursday following a decline on Wall Street, influenced by escalating geopolitical tensions and remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump. U.S. defense stocks experienced a decline following Trump’s statement that he “will not permit” defense companies to issue dividends or engage in stock buybacks until they respond to his concerns regarding the industry, which encompass executive compensation and production challenges.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average in the U.S. ended its three-day winning streak, declining by 466 points, or 0.94%, to finish at 48,996.08. The S&P 500 decreased by 23.89 points, representing a decline of 0.34%, concluding at 6,920.93. In contrast, the Nasdaq Composite saw a slight increase of 37.10 points, or 0.16%, finishing at 23,584.28.

Domestic Market:

Domestic equity benchmarks concluded the trading session on Wednesday with declines, marking a third consecutive day of losses, as ongoing selling pressure in major stocks negatively impacted market sentiment. The Nifty concluded the trading session beneath the 26,150 mark, influenced by a blend of global signals and ongoing geopolitical issues associated with events in Venezuela.

The S&P BSE Sensex experienced a decrease of 120.20 points, representing a 0.12% drop, closing at 84,961.14. The Nifty 50 index experienced a decline of 37.95 points, reflecting a decrease of 0.14%, closing at 26,140.75. Over the course of three consecutive sessions, the Sensex experienced a decline of 0.93%, whereas the Nifty recorded a decrease of 0.71%.
