Institutional Flows:
Foreign portfolio investors divested shares amounting to Rs 17.86 crore, whereas domestic institutional investors emerged as net purchasers, acquiring a total of Rs 4,013.60 crore in the Indian equity market on 06 August 2026, according to provisional data. The FIIs have acquired shares valued at Rs 24,636 crore thus far in August (up to 07 August 2026). This follows their cash sales of Rs 5,778.99 crore in July, Rs 49,028.63 crore in June, and Rs 55,963.33 crore in May.
Global Markets:
Asian markets experienced an uptick on Friday, driven by a positive shift in investor sentiment. This optimism stemmed from expectations that an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could alleviate crude oil prices and mitigate inflationary pressures. China’s exports experienced a greater-than-anticipated increase in July, although the growth rate slowed compared to June’s vigorous expansion, bolstered by substantial global demand for high-tech components. Official customs data released on Friday indicated that exports increased by 23% year-on-year in U.S. dollar terms in July, a deceleration from the 27% growth recorded in June, which marked the fastest pace since October 2021.
Imports rose by 27.5% year-over-year, a deceleration from the 36% surge observed in June, which represented the most robust growth in five years. China’s trade surplus was $112.5 billion in July, a decrease from the $125.6 billion observed in June. Oil experienced an uptick on Friday, driven by concerns regarding potential supply disruptions following Iran’s release of a restrictive draft plan concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Futures for international benchmark Brent crude for October delivery increased by 1.25%, reaching $83.52 per barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures for September increased by 1.10%, reaching $78.14 per barrel.
According to the apparent draft plan published by Iran, the country would impose a ban on U.S. and Israeli vessels from transiting the Strait. According to the draft, until compensation is paid, other nations that have inflicted harm on Iran would be prohibited from transiting. Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow declined by more than 460 points, or 0.9%, settling at 53,885.10, thus ending a five-day streak of gains. The S&P 500 experienced a decline of 0.2%, settling at 7,709.36, whereas the Nasdaq Composite saw a slight decrease of 0.1%, closing at 26,348.35. Investors will pay keen attention to the employment report scheduled for release on Friday.
Domestic Market:
The benchmark indices concluded the day with an upward trajectory in a session characterised by volatility, marking a continuation of gains for the second consecutive day. Sentiment was bolstered by optimism surrounding a potential diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East, alongside a June-quarter earnings season that exceeded expectations.
The S&P BSE Sensex increased by 373.76 points, reflecting a rise of 0.48%, reaching a level of 78,954.76. The Nifty 50 index experienced an increase of 11.35 points, reflecting a growth of 0.05%, reaching a level of 24,636. In two consecutive sessions, the Sensex experienced an increase of 1.33%, whereas the Nifty saw a rise of 1.29%.
