Global Markets:
Asian stocks experienced an uptick on Thursday following the release of U.S. inflation data, which aligned with expectations and subsequently tempered anticipations of imminent rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. U.S. consumer prices rose by 0.1% in July, aligning with broadly anticipated forecasts, according to data released on Wednesday. The modest uptick may undermine the case for a forthcoming interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve next month. Money markets are currently estimating a 40% probability of an interest rate increase, a decline from the 54% figure observed a week prior, as reported by CME Group’s FedWatch.
Meanwhile, oil remained close to $80 a barrel as Washington and Tehran continued to be at an impasse regarding efforts to resolve the Gulf war. Wall Street concluded the session with a mixed performance, as the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 recorded modest gains, whereas the Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a decline. Positive quarterly results from CoreWeave and other AI infrastructure companies, along with moderate inflation data, bolstered investor sentiment. The S&P 500 experienced an increase of 0.26%, concluding the session at 7,748.50 points. The Nasdaq increased by 0.54%, closing at 26,588.49 points for the session, whereas the Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a slight decline of 0.04%, finishing at 53,770.27 points.
CoreWeave experienced a notable increase of 19% following the upward revision of its annual capital spending forecast and the surpassing of second-quarter earnings expectations. Data center operators experienced an uptick, with IREN increasing nearly 10% and Applied Digital advancing by 4.9%. Data center company Nebius Group experienced a notable increase of 34%, driven by second-quarter results that surpassed expectations. Super Micro Computer experienced a notable increase of 19% following the company’s projection of fiscal 2027 revenue that exceeds Wall Street’s expectations. Chipmakers experienced an uptick, with Nvidia increasing by 3% and Micron Technology advancing by 4.9%.
Domestic Market:
Key benchmark indices concluded lower for the second consecutive session on Wednesday, with the Nifty declining beneath 24,450. Selling pressure in Tata Group stocks has negatively impacted sentiment after N Chandrasekaran announced he would not pursue reappointment as chairman of Tata Sons beyond February 2027. Sectorally, information technology and fast-moving consumer goods stocks faced downward pressure, whereas public sector banks and metal stocks experienced an upward trajectory. The broader market indices concluded the trading session with a mixed performance.
From a technical perspective, the Nifty’s range of 24,300 to 24,250 is identified as a crucial support area, whereas 24,500 is regarded as a significant resistance threshold. The S&P BSE Sensex experienced a decrease of 187.90 points, reflecting a decline of 0.24%, closing at 77,966.35. The Nifty 50 index declined by 35.75 points, representing a decrease of 0.15%, closing at 24,435.95. In two consecutive sessions, the Nifty experienced a decline of 0.60%, while the Sensex recorded a fall of 0.73%.
