The Indian equity markets climbed off the day’s high but were still trading with gains as Finance Minister Nirmala Sithamran announced various relief measures and package to help the poor and fight the downturn caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
The Prime Minister Gareeb Kalyan scheme worth Rs 1.7 trillion will have two parts — cash transfer and food security, said the Finance Minister.
Frontline index S&P BSE Sensex was up 1,017 points, or 3.57 per cent, at 29,550 levels, and the Nifty50 index hovered around 8,590 level, up 280 points, or 3.4 per cent.
