TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS
Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty50 started Wednesday’s session on a positive note tracking three-week highs in other Asian markets following an overnight surge in Wall Street indices. Gains across sectors pushed the headline indices higher, with financial, IT, oil & gas and metal stocks being the biggest movers. Broader markets also strengthened, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices rising almost one percent in early deals. Investors remained focused on news updates about the Russia-Ukraine war and rising coronavirus infections in China.
