Global Markets:

Asian markets exhibited a mixed performance on Wednesday, as investors evaluated the technology-driven selloff observed on Wall Street and prepared for the forthcoming key US inflation data. Market sentiment exhibited a cautious demeanour, influenced by apprehensions surrounding elevated crude oil prices and the intensifying competition within the semiconductor sector. Singapore’s economy experienced a year-on-year expansion of 5.4% in Q3 2026, a moderation from the 6.2% growth recorded in the preceding quarter, as indicated by advance estimates published by the Ministry of Trade and Industry on Wednesday. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP experienced a growth of 1.1%, a decrease from the 1.5% recorded in Q2. Manufacturing output rose by 7.5% year on year, a deceleration from the 12.9% growth observed in the previous quarter.

US stocks concluded the trading session on Tuesday with a decline, primarily influenced by a downturn in technology and semiconductor shares that impacted the overall market performance. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.35% to 51,670.10, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.02% to 7,805.45. The Nasdaq Composite experienced a decline of 0.15%, closing at 27,204.38. Investors evaluated corporate earnings while anticipating US inflation data for insights into the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate trajectory. New York Federal Reserve President John Williams indicated that he still viewed one additional interest-rate hike in 2026 as potentially appropriate, while asserting that there was no immediate necessity for further increases in 2027.

In an interview, Williams stated that his outlook continued to hinge on forthcoming economic data and trends in inflation. His comments reflect his present evaluation rather than an obligation by the Federal Reserve to adhere to a particular trajectory for rates. Crude oil prices experienced an uptick due to apprehensions regarding potential supply disruptions stemming from the resurgence of hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi rebels. Brent crude futures experienced an increase of 1.32%, reaching a price of $107.09 per barrel.

Domestic Market:

The domestic equity benchmarks experienced a notable rebound on Tuesday, reversing the decline observed in the previous session, driven by robust buying activity in IT stocks that bolstered market sentiment. Better-than-expected quarterly results from HCLTech and TCS bolstered the sector, while the Indian rupee appreciated in response to the Reserve Bank of India’s recent foreign exchange measures. However, elevated crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty persisted in exerting pressure on the outlook. The S&P BSE Sensex increased by 1,109.10 points, reflecting a rise of 1.54%, reaching a level of 73,033.78. The Nifty 50 index experienced an increase of 358.60 points, reflecting a rise of 1.60%, reaching a level of 22,721.95.
