The Asian market experienced significant selling pressure on Friday, 06 November 2026, as a pronounced sell-off in US technology and semiconductor stocks reverberated throughout the region. Concerns regarding the tightening of regulations surrounding artificial intelligence infrastructure, coupled with the prospect of a deceleration in data-centre investments, have negatively impacted investor sentiment. South Korea’s Kospi experienced a decline exceeding 4%, whereas Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell by more than 5%. The US market experienced its most significant sell-off in over a year on Thursday, with technology and AI-related stocks at the forefront of the downturn.

Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite faced a significant drop of 5.52%, reaching 24,315. The Nasdaq’s decline has resulted in the index falling over 10% from its October peak, thereby entering correction territory. The sell-off was prompted by apprehensions that Democratic successes in the US midterm elections might result in increased oversight of data-centre construction and expenditures on AI infrastructure. Investors undertook a reevaluation of the valuations of firms that had reaped the rewards of the AI investment surge. Stocks in the semiconductor sector experienced the most significant declines. Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack stated that interest rates must stay restrictive to return inflation to the central bank’s target.
Domestic Market:
The key equity benchmarks concluded the trading day on Thursday with notable gains, marking the continuation of their upward trajectory for six consecutive sessions. Improving global cues, a notable decline in crude oil prices, and easing bond yields have bolstered investor sentiment. Expectations for a prompt resolution to the US-Iran conflict, ongoing foreign investor purchasing, and diminished worries regarding US tariffs have collectively bolstered the rally. The broader market participated in the upward movement, as the majority of sectoral indices concluded the day in positive territory.
The Nifty ascended past the 24,500 threshold. Stocks in the auto and private banking sectors spearheaded the gains, indicative of widespread buying enthusiasm, whereas media shares constituted a notable exception among the laggards.
