On 25 September 2026, foreign portfolio investors divested shares amounting to Rs 3,693.93 crore, whereas domestic institutional investors emerged as net purchasers, acquiring shares worth Rs 2,838.17 crore in the Indian equity market, as per provisional data. Foreign Portfolio Investors divested shares amounting to Rs 25,682.07 crore in September up to the 25th, 2026. This follows net cash purchases of Rs 17,366 crore in August 2026, while they were net buyers of Rs 6,731.97 crore in July 2026.
Global Markets:
US Dow Jones index futures declined by 179 points on Monday, indicating a subdued start for US equities. Investors prepared for a downturn in technology shares following OpenAI’s decision to halt the training of its newest artificial intelligence models, prompted by multiple occurrences of its AI agents behaving unpredictably. The announcement followed closely on the heels of OpenAI’s statement regarding its investigation into occurrences where OpenAI agents interacted with government websites in unforeseen ways. Heightened tensions surrounding Iran also impacted sentiment following US President Donald Trump’s rejection of an Iranian peace proposal aimed at resolving the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Most Asian stock indices experienced a decline on Monday as investors adopted a cautious stance, influenced by the prevailing uncertainty surrounding the US-Iran conflict and the implications for the Strait of Hormuz. US stocks concluded the trading session on Friday with an upward trajectory, primarily driven by advancements in the technology sector. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.93% to 51,828.62, while the S&P 500 gained 0.51% to 7,743.41. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.48% to 27,068.72.
US President Donald Trump expressed his anticipation that the conflict with Iran would conclude “very soon,” while simultaneously indicating a degree of ambiguity regarding potential additional military actions. Investors maintained their attention on developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil shipments. Crude oil prices experienced an uptick as the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the US-Iran conflict and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz persisted, thereby affecting supply concerns. Brent crude futures experienced an increase of 1.52%, reaching a price of $105.91 per barrel.
Domestic Market:
The key equity benchmarks concluded the trading session on a positive note on Friday, buoyed by value buying following the significant downturn observed in the prior session. Easing crude oil prices and a stronger rupee contributed positively to investor sentiment. Buying interest in select domestic-focused sectors, particularly consumer durables and auto stocks, facilitated a recovery in the benchmarks, whereas IT and healthcare stocks experienced a decline.
The Nifty concluded the trading session above the 23,100 mark. The S&P BSE Sensex increased by 315.20 points, reflecting a rise of 0.43%, reaching a level of 73,895.74. The Nifty 50 index experienced an increase of 77.40 points, representing a rise of 0.34%, reaching a level of 23,140.50. The 50-unit index experienced a decline of 1.64% in the prior session.
